Religion

In Religion this week the children will finish learning about the Holy Family and look more closely at the Our Father.  They will attend mass onTuesday.  We will listen and work to understand next Sunday's gospel in our Promise magazine.

In Math the children will be working in Topic 9 and be assessed.  I put a practice test on the Savvas website. They will work to sequence two digit numbers from least to greatest and solve riddles by making an organized list.

Reading

 

This week the children will learn six new words: because, blue, into,or other, small,  learn and pactice long vowel Ee, work on prefixes un-, re-, pre, look at context clues, understand captions, and work with phonemes. Keep reading!

We are doing Intensive Phonics on the chalkboard and on our white boards. This week the boys and girls will be practicing long vowel Ee with the combinations e-e, ea, ee, and ey.  

Spelling
Grammar

The Spelling words for this week are me, we, keep, feed, beak, seat, play, rain, because, other. This test will be Friday, February 4th.  Studying a little every night is not only a good habit to instill but it really works!

In Grammar, we will study the correct use of the verbs HAS and HAVE.

News for the week of January 29th


 

Fasten you seat belts because Catholic Schools week is upon us!  Each day will be filled with fun activities (and some kind of dress-up!) The most important event, of course, is the Three Piggy Opera on Thursday at 8:00 am. We will continue all of our academics.  Please keep your nightly study routines.  The work is challenging!

In Religion this week the boys and girls will be working in their Family Life books. The entire school completes this program in religion. They will complete a service project with their partners. The children will hear and understand the upcoming Sunday gospel in our "Promise" magazine. 

In Math the children will begin Topic 9.  They willl find one more, one less, ten more, ten less than a number. We continue time tests in math this week.  Get out those flashcards!

The children are going to learn six new words as we work in our first grade reader: because, blue, into, or, other, small, learn the spellings for long vowel Ee, study and recognize meaning changes with prefixes re- un- and pre-, and blend phonemes. They will read three paired stories in their reading books. Rereading workbook pages that come home is an excellent way to practice!

In Intensive phonics this week the children will be learning the sound and various spellings for words with long vowels Uu and Ee. We continue to work on long vowels.  Intensive Phonics works!

This week's spelling words are me, we, keep, feed, beak, seat, play, rain, because, and other.This test will be on Friday, February 3rd.

In our Grammar this week, the class will study and practice when to use the verbs has and have.
